Today teach said the following: “Black people can’t be racist—because racism is the belief that one’s race is superior to another”

Bullshit!

Yes, that is one of the definitions (see below*)—but the fact remains that there is a more common definition: numbers 2 and 3.

Discrimination is wrong—period!

I’m a liberal—’open minded’ and all that stuff—but I know bullshit when I see it.

He went on to say that the horrendous murder of Matthew Shepard was somewhat ‘racial’! OK, Matthew was white and so where both of his killers—so I fail to see what was racial about it. In addition, he didn’t even say Matthew’s name. In stead he said “that gay guy that was murdered out west!”

I know it wasn’t really intentional to sound so insensitive about Mr Shepard—but still, I was angered by it. I remember very vividly hearing about Matthew’s murder on the news in 1998. It made it very clear how backwards we’re—and still are, as a country. Anyway…it’s homophobia—not racism!!!

Oh, and not treating women equally is sexism—not racism…

but still it brings up the point: discrimination is wrong.

*1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

FYI, this guy cancelled class one day to go give a lecture about Star Trek.
