Obama v. Hillary Tuesday, Feb 26 2008

To respond, Clinton should wait till after Tuesday to see if she will have any significant victories (I doubt it). If not, she should droup-out; this would, in fact, help the Democrats. Instead of fighting down to the last delegate, the party could have a united front going into the general to prepare for Obama’s match-up against McCain.

Nader! Monday, Feb 25 2008

The said thing is not the Nader spoild 2000, but the fact that he, at the time, was the best candidate. Still, however, it seems to be a problem, for lack of a better word.

Ralph Nader is entering the presidential race as an independent, he announced Sunday, saying it is time for a “Jeffersonian revolution.” [Irony] “In the last few years, big money and the closing down of Washington against citizen groups prevent us from trying to improve our country. And I want everybody to have the right and opportunity to improve their country,” he told reporters after an appearance announcing his candidacy on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Asked why he should be president, the longtime consumer advocate said, “Because I got things done.” He cited a 40-year record, which he said includes saving “millions of lives,” bringing about stricter protection for food and water and fighting corporate control over Washington.

Nader’s decision, which did not come as a surprise to political watchers, marks his fourth straight White House bid — fifth if his 1992 write-in campaign is included. [CNN]

Quote from Jefferson Monday, Feb 25 2008

I need say nothing.

It will probably be asked, Why not retain and incorporate the blacks into the state…..Are not the fine mixtures of red and white, the expressions of every passion by greater or less suffusions of colour in the one, preferable to that eternal monotony, which reigns in the countenances, that immoveable veil of black which covers all the emotions of the other race? Add to these, flowing hair, a more elegant symmetry of form, their own judgment in favour of the whites, declared by their preference of them, as uniformly as is the preference of the Oranootan [sic] for the black women over those of his own species.

I’ll just go on to say what is obvious about the election Sunday, Feb 24 2008

Clinton is pretty much done. It is clear to me that the 18% that Edwards was getting when he was in the race is now going to Obama ~~ it is the most obvious explanation for why Obama has not just been beating Hillary—but, quite frankly, kicking her ass across the political map.

Will this end the art of film? Sunday, Feb 24 2008

Below is a segment of an article from The Economist about the role the internet plays on the film industry. The segment leads me to ask the question: is the democratisation of the film industry the end film as an art?

“Snakes on a Plane”, for instance, started off in development as a horror film. As the project got attention online its maker, New Line Cinema, listened, and changed the plot to be more comic in tone. Blowtorch, a young media company making video content for 18- to 24-year-olds, is pushing this further. It will allow audiences to influence its movies via the web. They will be invited to vote on elements of a film’s soundtrack, an actor’s wardrobe, or even character development. [ The Economist]

Australia’s prime minister has delivered an historic apology to the Aboriginal people in a gesture of reconciliation for injustices committed over two centuries of white settlement.
